Kjøbenhavns Boldklub (Copenhagen Ball Club) could, after its construction, consider itself proprietor of Europe's largest private sports facility. As a sports hall, K.B. Hallen has been the host of a little of everything, from boxing, dancing, badminton, volleyball, basketball to handball. Not to mention tennis, where Martina Hingis and Boris Becker have played there. Even John McEnroe has been to K.B. Hallen and complained about numerous empire decisions that didn't go his way.

On the whole, K.B. Hallen, for the last for eight decades, made itself known as a cultural institution, always on the same wavelength with the spirit of time. From music and sports to political congresses and sex shows, K.B Hallen has given hundreds of thousands of people experiences of a lifetime.

Already one year after the opening, Duke Ellington on April the 13, 1939, joined by his orchestra entered the stage at K.B. Hallen. The concert marked the start of the golden era of the jazz, where K.B. Hallen became Copenhagen's center for all Jazz major events.

During the occupation of Denmark, K.B. Hallen was forced to closed its doors, but re-opened again in 1946, where The Don Redman Orchestra gave a concert on September 15th. On October 2nd 1947, the popular trumpetist and singer Louis Armstrong performed for the first time at K.B. Hallen, just one of many concerts he would go on to performed by the popular American at K.B Hallen. He played for full houses in 1949, 1952, 1955 and most recently 1961. The aforementioned Ellington returns post-war, and gives concerts in 1950, 1958 and 1959.

All In all, the 50's were a great decade for Jazz, especially in 1953, where Dizzy Gillespie, Oscar Peterson, Stan Kenton and Count Basie all visited, while in 1954, Jazz at the Philharmonic was held with amongst others Sarah Vaughan, Illinois Jacquet Orchestra, Mary Lou Williams and Coleman Hawkins. In 1956, Miles Davis came by for the first time with his Modern Jazz Quartet, while Dave Brubreck and Duke Ellington played in 1958. Kid Ory, Count Basie and Art Blakey played in 1959 followed by Armstrong who so nicely finished off the era in 1961.

In addition to "Denmark's first rock 'n' roll" concert in 1956 with Ib "Rock" Jensen topping the bill, there dac been no other concerts of its kind at K.B. Hallen, but everything was set to change after The Beatles performed two concerts on June 4th, 1964.

Even though, on October 4th, the Copenhagen Jazz Festival was held with the Miles Davis Quartet and the Dave Brubreck Quartet, rock had seriously been unlocked for good and there was no turning back. January 30, 1965, "DM i Pigtråd" ("pigtråd", Danish for barbed wire, was the term applied to rock 'n' roll in the early days) was won by Keld Heick and The Donkeys.

In 1965 The Who gave their first Danish concert in K.B. Hallen, the godfather of rock 'n' roll, Chuck Berry, entered the stage later that year, and the initiative "Young People's Ball" culminated. The latter were a series of events where young people gathered in the name of rock music. P.J. Proby and The Pretty Things, among others performed during the events.

The very same year, The Hollis dropped by for a vist, and in 1966 K.B. Hallen so did The Kinks, Them (with Van Morrison), The Rolling Stones, The Yardbirds and of course Bob Dylan, who gave his first Danish concert on May 1 that year.

Throughout the 70's, many rock names, of which have since been received legendary status, gave concerts in K.B. Hallen. The 1970's in particular, was a major year: Led Zeppelin gave their first of three K.B shows (two followed in 1971 and 1973). Frank Zappa played with Mothers of Invention, while there were Danish debut performances by Creedence Clearwater Revival (which also returned a year later), Jethro Tull (who returned in 1971 and again in 1972) and Black Sabbath.

Jimi Hendrix gave his last Danish concert, just 15 days before his death on September 18th, and Simon & Garfunkel gave their first of just three Danish performances, which took place in K.B. Hallen on April 28th that year.

1970 was also the year in which the international band, who are the band that have given the most concerts ever at K.B. Hallen, debuted in Frederiksberg. Namely, Deep Purple, who have since played an impressive 11 concerts in the old K.B. Hallen, most recently the 13th July 2009, just two years before the incineration. When the Englishmen in February 1973 gave two double concerts with the Electric Light Orchestra, there was a certain 9-year-old Lars Ulrich in the audience. The world-renowned Danish Metallica drummer has often highlighted this particular concert as the deciding moment for him wanting to pursue his musical dreams.

The rest of the 70’s saw visits from Paul McCartneys Wings, 2 times The Who, Johnny Cash, Alice Cooper, The Band, Procol Harum and, in particular, Pink Floyd, who gave two concerts in K.B. Hallen on the 10th and the 11th of November 1972. Roger Waters & Co. played here – and quite unusually, comparing to today's standards at least - they performed the whole of 'Dark Side of the Moon' from start to finish ... 4 months before the album was released!

Glam and hard rock also hit this decade in the form of The Sweet, Slade and Status Quo, who in total managed to play 7 concerts in the old hall. In 1974 Lou Reed passed by, as well as Eric Clapton. The following year there was a visit from his old Cream comrade Jack Bruce, while Grand Funk Railroad also played with Mott the Hoople as warm up.

From the mid-70s and the following decade K.B has some competition on the concert front, first from Brøndby Hall and more recently Valby Hall. K. B. Hallen during this period, experienced a long break from hosting concerts.

In the 80's, big hair also comes to K.B. Hallen with Europe, Def Leppard and Mötley Crüe all dropping by. Aerosmith and The Cult are there too, and Kiss comes with face paint and all in 1988. In the heavier department, Metal names such as Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Dio, Scorpions and non other than legendary Metallica make their mark.

At the same time, hip hop is at the beginning of its greatness, and on October 17, Run DMC and Public Enemy perform a double act in Frederiksberg, and four days later, the legendary James Brown is on the same stage. In 1989, the red headed pop crooner Rick Astley takes his place on stage. Ozzy Osbourne gives solo concert, and Black Sabbath without Ozzy plays half a year later. A major hiphop-event is held again in december, Hiphop '89, where Big Daddy Kane performs with Danish MC Einar supporting.

To the delight of the Danes, finally some Danish bands were also big enough to fill the hall, with Gnags playing a 1st of May concert in 1982 and fills K.B. Hallen twice, at the end of 1987 and 1989. Another Danish bane that played no less than 9 times in the old hall, was DAD. They gave their first KB concert on April 28th, 1989. On the eve of the 1990s, February 2nd, world-renowned Danish metal musicians King Diamond took on K.B Hallen, and on October 25th, so did TV-2 concert.

Throughout the 90's, K.B. Hallen's concerts musical line up changed considerably. Although Metal bands like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Slayer, Megadeth and non-other than Motörhead are still heading the bill. K.B also sees the likes of Tears for Fears and legends such as Van Morrison, Keith Richards, Robert Plant and Santana. And Islandic Björk's success is at its peak just before her K.B Hallen concert in 1995. One this really sticks out during this time, and it's the American Grunge & Indie scene and of course, let not forget to mention the British Pop scene that is that is taking over the muscial world.

So naturally we saw Alice in Chains visit in 1993, Stone Temple Pilots and then Soundgarden in 1994,  who so kindly then returned again in 1996. Also in 1993, 4 Non Blondes with the ever so charismatic Linda Perry vist K.B Hallen too. Green Day starts the pop punk party in the summer of 1995 and in 1996 Smashing Pumpkins gave their first big Danish concert on the back of their monster-selling double album 'Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness'. And tet’s not forgot the phenomenal band LIVE who performed in 1997.

The Hip hop genre is still riding high in the 90’s, which meant we saw the likes of Beastie Boys and Cypress Hill perform in K.B. Hallen in 1995, while the Danish East Coast Hustler performed in 1998. From the British Indie and Pop scene there were visits from top bands like Manic Street Preachers (1993), Oasis (1995), Jamiroquai (1996), Radiohead (1997), Massive Attack (1998) and Skunk Anansie (1999). Throughout the decade, however, there was some room for rock and blues , and K.B had the pleasure of having The Cult (1994), The Black Crowes (1995), Toto (1996), Lynyrd Skynyrd (1997) and, in particular, in the old K.B. plus the good old regulars Deep Purple in1998.

Towards the turn of the millennium, a new pop tendency is bubbling away. Take That challenged King Robbie Williams on K.B. Hallen’s stage twice in 1999, two years after another boy band phenomenon, Backstreet Boys, visted. The very same year, Swedish pop group, The Cardigans, who at that stage were larger than their warm up band Kent -  who themselves had headlined four concerts in the old hall already (in 2002, 2 times in 2007 and 2008).

Danish groups The Sandmen, Black Sol and of course D-A-D and Thomas Helmig also give concerts in K.B Hallen before the big boys of electronic pop arrive, The Chemical Brothers, Nine Inch Nails and Atari Teenage Riot get the audience slamming into the new millenium in November 1999.

Early Wednesday morning, 28th of September 2011, a violent fire occurred. Halogen lighting set fire in some cardboard boxes and caused the fire. There were 6 people staying in the hall in connection with an Erotic event, which was to be held the following day. Luckily no one was injured by the fire, but the hall was beyond rescue. It was only 4 months earlier, the Cultural Agency had made K.B Hallen a heritage building. However, it was discontinued in 2013.

Since the hall was ruined beyond repair,  it was decided to demolish the building. The demolition commenced on February 20, 2015.
